Creative Workshops
Creative workshops are a big part of the weekend, where you get to sit down for an hour or two and be guided through a workshop to design something of your own to take home and keep forever. Creative workshops run throughout Saturday, and Sunday morning (outside of Keynote Speaker sessions).
Creative workshops can be booked online when you purchase your tickets to the weekend for a flat cost of $50 per workshop. You can select as many creative workshops as you like, however we recommend booking up to two creative workshops, so you still have plenty of time to experience the rest of the weekend, such as other workshops and speakers, the market stalls, and have some downtime!
There are seven creative workshops to choose from, listed below.
Boots, Babes and Brushes – Hosted by Sue McDonald
Hosted by Sue McDonald, owner of Glazed Lamb Ceramic Café in Charleville. This ceramic painting session invites participants to slow down, connect and enjoy a social session of creativity. Participants will paint a ceramic piece (available options TBC) with the freedom to personalise their own design. Finished pieces from the CCLD weekend will be ready within 3 weeks – the pieces will be taken home to be dip glazed and fired from the weekend, then posted to you. End products are food grade usable and waterproof.
Symphony in Leaves – Hosted by Dona Spencer
Slow down, unwind and enjoy some creative time in this relaxing, guided workshop. Using experimental stencilling techniques, found objects and locally collected leaves, participants will layer shapes, textures and patterns to create a unique artwork inspired by the natural beauty of the Channel Country.
No previous art experience is needed, just come along ready to experiment and have fun. Each participant will leave with their own finished canvas to take home and enjoy.
The Mindful Terrarium – Hosted by Katrina Lehmann
Blending gentle mindfulness practices with the art of terrarium creation, this session invites attendees to slow down and reconnect – with themselves, with nature, and with the present moment. Participants will be guided through creating their own miniature living ecosystem using layers of soil, moss, and carefully selected plants. As they build their terrarium, they’ll be encouraged to engage their senses, embrace creativity, and enjoy a mindful, pressure-free environment.
This workshop is suitable for all experience levels and aims to provide a welcoming, relaxed space where attendees can unwind, learn a new skill, and leave with both a beautiful keepsake and a sense of calm. All materials will be provided.
Cow Skull Mixed Media Workshop – Hosted by Jobella
In this hands-on workshop participants will create their own cow skull sculpture using wire and mixed media techniques.
To allow everyone to achieve a strong result within the workshop timeframe, the base wire armature will be pre-formed. Participants will still work with wire during the workshop, adding to the structure and extending the horns to suit their own creative design.
From there we will build the skull using paper mache and creative surface techniques, allowing each piece to develop its own character and style.
Participants are also welcome to return to the Art Space during the day to continue decorating or adding detail to their skull if they would like extra time to develop their design.
The Everywhere Journal – Hosted by Tracey Hewitt
So often we hear people say they don’t have time to make art. Tracey will show you how that’s not true. In The Everywhere Journal, you’ll discover a simple, portable, accessible way to develop a creative practice that fits into real life. In this 3 hour workshop designed for all skill levels – total newbie to old hand – you’ll learn a few simple techniques using watercolour and pen, discover inspiration is all around, and we’ll talk about the places in your days where you can claim some moments to create while giving your mind and spirit a place to rest.
Bubbles and Brushes – Hosted by Annabel Tully
Enjoy the Quilpie sunset, drink in hand & let the creative juices flow! Participants of all levels of artistic experience are welcome to attend. Inspired by music and giggling with friends, it’s a time to paint, relax and sink into the creative spirit. All materials are provided. Please just bring your drink of choice and an openness to try something new!
Embellished Felt Hat – Hosted by Kirsten Forrest
This is a hands on hat decorating workshop where you get to design, style and personalise your very own felt hat. Create something totally you by transforming a plain felt hat with leather, lace, fabric, feathers, ribbons & other bits and bobs.
You can even personalise your hat with hot iron branding of letters and symbols to make it so you! Felt hat provided and all decorating supplies included. All creative levels welcome. You will be amazed at what you can do, and we are here to help.
