Bronwen Jones

September 30, 2019

This workshop will be run by Bronwen Jones, who is back to teach clay bead making, after her resin workshops in 2017.

Browen says she is both creative and scientific in equal measure. A love for biology lead her to a Master’s degree in farm revegetation, and then to a career in conservation, all the while creating botanical art in watercolour and gouache paints. While running a creative business she has always used the scientific method to experiment and refine my artistic process.

Bronwen first used resin in 2009, and says he hasn’t really had empty resin moulds since. She launched Whizzbangle, a jewellery-based label soon after, followed by Bravo Juliet Designs a range of resin vintage style vases in vibrant colours. Between the two labels, gift shops and florists across Australia were kept well stocked with bangles and vases, including supporting exhibitions in Brisbane at the Gallery of Modern Art and Museum of Brisbane.

In 2013, Browen was asked to run a regular workshop program at Barnes Brisbane. She found the process rewarding, and learnt as much from students as she taught them. This has lead to a regular program for adults at Barnes, professional development workshops for art teachers at high schools, demonstrations for senior visual art students, school holiday polymer clay workshops for kids and workshops at the Channel Country Ladies Day. Bronwen says, “I really enjoy the collaborative nature of workshops, and always come away inspired by the participants and energised towards a new project”.

Workshop: ‘Polymer clay beading and jewellery class’

Want to learn to make beautiful polymer clay beads, earrings or brooches? Polymer clay is a safe and easy material to work with to create fun, individual jewellery.

In this class you’ll learn the technical skills for working with polymer clay, including kneading and conditioning the clay, blending colours and creating marble effects. As well as how to add texture and use shapes to finish off your pieces. A great class to express your creative side – make a necklace of bold beads, earrings in your favourite colours or even doughnuts for fun!

All the fiddly bits like necklace cord and earring backs are provided and there’s lots of tips and tricks so you can both make stylish pieces to take home, as well as gain valuable skills to use again and again. Perfect for beginners.
