Red Ridge enriches lives and protect local heritage by working with our communities, government and donors. Their focus is the social and economic health of our own communities and all who live here. Ellen Briggs
Ellen Briggs is a talented mother of two, with a sharp tongue and a rapidly rising career in the comedy industry! With just two years’ experience, she bagged first prize on the National Foxtel Comedy Channel’s ‘Be a Comedian’ and earned a spot on Stand Up Australia. She then became a finalist in the nationally televised Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2007 “Raw Comedy” Competition. Ellen regularly performs as a comedian and MC at venues all over Australia, and can often be heard on “ABC North Coast Radio” and Byron Bay’s Community Radio Station, “Bay FM”. At the end of 2007, she was shortlisted for the breakfast radio program “The Cage” which is heard on MMM in Brisbane – without even applying!

Catherine Parker
Catherine is a painter/mixed media artist based in Toowoomba, Queensland. An avid, curious traveller, she seeks respite in makeshift studios, sometimes with a portable sketch book involving ‘on the road’ works. A frequent traveller to India and Magnetic Island, North Queensland, Australia, her works combine elements of the two continents; a metaphysical interest in nature and spiritual systems. Join Catherine to create a collaborative bush scroll. An opportunity to experiment and learn new skills. Paint, drop ink, screen print and get physical with this long scroll. This will be an abstract landscape and may take many shapes and forms. All contribution welcome and encouraged!

Bronwen Jones

Bronwen Jones took her first resin workshop in 2009 and has been pouring resin ever since! At first, she just poured enough bangles for her own left wrist, but then as the numbers grew and her bangle drawer got harder to close she expanded to her first jewellery label ‘Whizzbangle’, selling at handmade markets around Brisbane. As her experimentation continued, a line of vintage style resin vases was her next successful business selling to gift shops, florists and art galleries around Australia. She has been teaching resin workshops with Barnes and Candu since 2013 to adults, school teachers and high school students.

Community Canvas with Lyn Barnes
Quilpie Artist Lyn Barnes will be co-ordinating the development of a painting on the weekend that will be auctioned on Saturday evening. Take the chance to dabble with paint and indulge your creative side! The community canvas has become a CCLD tradition and is always painted in the context of the host location with all participants depicting themselves in the landscape or at a major occasion like the Friday night cocktail party. The canvases become an artistic record of Channel Country Ladies at play and have become highly prized collector’s pieces. Living in the arid landscape of outback Queensland Lyn has been painting and exhibiting for over twenty-five years. Her work is recognised for its vivid depiction of not only the intense blue skies and red earth of her home, but also of the people of the Channel Country. Travellers collect her pictures to remind them of their experiences in the back country and successful annual exhibitions in Brisbane have proven that urban Australians still have a great love of the outback landscape and lifestyle. The pictures Lyn produces in her studio in at Eagle Gallery in Quilpie are held in both private and corporate collections throughout Australia and overseas.
Jordin Steele

Lack of infrastructure and digital connectivity, combined with vast distances creates an insurmountable barrier between metropolitan and regional Australia. The voices of region go unheard despite the wealth of knowledge, passion, pain and humour our remote communities have to share. As part of the 2018 Women of the World Festival, we want to showcase the amazing women who understand what it takes to live in some of the most isolated parts of our country. Telling regional stories in an authentic and respectful way can only be done by the regional community themselves. The Outcast team has, and will continue to travel to regional and remote communities to capture stories in multiple formats including photography, 360 video, drone footage, surround sound audio and written interviews.

African Drumming Workshop with Gabriel Afotey Otu

A hands-on cultural experience which engages people in the positive spirit of West African music. The workshop will include drumming, dancing and singing, and follow a basic structure. Typically, it kicks off with a short performance, an introduction of the performer and then getting everyone excited about the music. We quickly move into the fun with drumming, dance, and song.
Forró with Rio Rhythmics
When the British occupied Brazil, they created parties to try and engage with the locals. They said the parties were “FOR- ALL” a term that became localised to “FORRO” (pronounced Fo-ho). Brazil’s country side has much in common with Australia. Many areas are dry and flat and it is here that Forró, Brazil’s country music comes from. This fun partner dance style uses a very simple step that allows you to add on many turns and spins. The most important part is to embrace your partner and enjoy the music!

Samba: A journey through Brazil with Rio Rhythmics
Samba, as a musical genre is as large and diverse as Brazil itself. But no matter the style, it is not Samba unless you smile! Take a journey through this infectious and joyful Brazilian dance style – from Samba Axé (ah-shay) from the beaches of Bahia, to Samba Carnaval from Rio.
